Student receives certificate

Michelle Turberfield, a third year Theatre, Acting & Performance student was awarded £1,000 for academic excellence during the last year of her studies.

“It means a lot!” said Michelle. “I worked really hard to achieve the grades I received and it’s really nice to see that hard work pay off and be celebrated.”

She added: “The financial help is really appreciated especially as an international student without access to student finance and loans. After covering my needs, this will really help boost my savings for my Masters in the future.”

Michelle moved to the UK to be closer to family after the Covid pandemic. “My father is from Worcester, and I thought it would be really nice to get to know this part of my heritage and culture. I also really loved the diversity of the theatre course offered at Worcester.”

Michelle said she’s hoping to keep her academic success going as she completes the final year of her degree: “I’m really proud of my academic achievements and the consistency I’ve been able to maintain so far throughout university. I’m really hoping to carry that forward and earn myself First-Class Honours.”

Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at the University, said: “We are incredibly proud of the students who have received academic scholarships.”

The scholarships and prizes are supported by generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers, and many successful graduates.

Staff at the University have also been raising funds for scholarship and hardship support as part of the University’s two-year Anniversaries Campaign, celebrating 20 years since gaining full university status in 2005 and 80 years since being founded as an emergency teacher training college in 1946.

Professor Moyle added: “These awards demonstrate to potential employers the outstanding achievements of our students, while providing financial support and encouragement for those who’ve earned them.”
