ANPR Introduction
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system will be introduced across the University’s campuses on October 19 2026. Once introduced, it is important that permit holders ensure they keep their registration(s) up to date.
ANPR FAQs
What is ANPR?
ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) uses cameras to read vehicle registration numbers as vehicles enter and leave campus. The system helps manage parking more effectively and ensures parking facilities are used appropriately.
Why is the University introducing an ANPR system?
The system is being introduced to improve the management of campus parking, make the process simpler for users, enhance security, and ensure parking spaces are available for those entitled to use them.
When will the ANPR system go live?
October 19 2026.
How does the system work?
Cameras positioned at campus entrances and exits automatically record vehicle registration numbers. The system checks these against permitted users and parking records to determine whether a vehicle is authorised to park on campus.
What do I need to do?
If you drive to campus, you will need to ensure your vehicle registration details are correctly registered through the University’s parking system, either via the permit holder scheme or via the pay as you go machines located across the car parks.
Can I register more than one vehicle?
Yes. Two vehicles can be registered to one permit.
What if I change my vehicle?
You should update your vehicle registration details as soon as possible through the parking system to avoid any issues.
What happens if I forget to update my registration number?
Your vehicle may not be recognised as an authorised user. If this happens, contact carparking@worc.ac.uk as soon as possible.
What should I do if I am expecting visitors?
If you have requested a reserved parking space for visitors you will need to obtain their vehicle registration and log this via the online booking system otherwise your visitors will need to input their vehicle registration into the pay machines.
What if I’m dropping off/collecting someone on Campus, or expecting a delivery?
We will be trialling a 15-minute drop-off period for St John’s and Severn Campuses, and a 5-minute drop-off for Jenny Lind. This will be kept under review and may change in the future. Any changes will be published here.
What if I believe I have received a parking notice in error?
There will be an appeals process. Details of how to appeal will be provided with any notice issued.
