24 - 25 June 2019

The inaugural International Inclusive Sports Symposium was held in Beijing in 2017, jointly hosted by Beijing Sports University and University of Worcester.  The University of Worcester are delighted to jointly host the second Symposium in June 2019 with colleagues from Beijing Sports University and also the Education University of Hong Kong.

The event this year will focus on sharing knowledge and expertise to make a difference in terms of the educational and sporting opportunities for young people globally and researchers from all three institutions will present their work.

University of Worcester and Beijing Sports University have been working in partnership for many years, in particular, sharing staff expertise in Inclusive Physical Education.  We are excited to be working with the Education University of Hong Kong and look forward to welcoming their researchers and students.

The Symposium embodies the philosophy of the University of Worcester: ‘The powerful concept of inclusive sport at the University is underpinned by the belief that everyone should have the chance to participate in physical activity, regardless of their circumstances’.

Facilities

The University has three main sites: St John's Campus, City Campus and Severn Campus. The St John’s and City Campus are a pleasant 20-minute walk from each other over the Sabrina Bridge, with the Severn Campus, home to the University Arena, conveniently situated between the two. The University is also home to The Hive, Europe’s first joint university and public library.

The School of Sport & Exercise Science has access to a diverse range of sports facilities and specialist laboratories for teaching and research across the three main campuses including; Performance Analysis Suites, 3D motion capture facilities, the dance studio, astroturf and grass pitches and a water sports lake amongst many others. The symposium will be held at the University Arena, on Severn Campus. The University Arena provides a first-class multi-purpose home for recreational and high-performance sport for the University and City. The Arena has a 2000 seating capacity and a range of sports, fitness, therapy and conference facilities. The facility is purposely designed for wheelchair and mobility impaired athletes and reflects the university’s inclusive values.

The Worcester Way

The Worcester Way: An Inclusive Approach to Physical Education and Sport is a teaching resource pack produced by teaching staff at the University of Worcester, who have been working for over ten years to help students enrolled on our sports-related courses and programmes to work inclusively in sport.

Each pack includes a book and activity cards, useful for anyone working in PE, sport or physical activity who has a broad interest in inclusion. For more information please see The Worcester Way Information Leaflet which is included in the link below.
