Annabel Collins said she was excited to be leaving the Cathedral this year as a graduate, having spent many years assisting as a member of staff at the annual ceremonies.

“It’s really fantastic to be attending this year’s ceremonies as a graduate myself,” said the 49-year-old mother-of-one. “I’ve spent so many years working at the graduation ceremonies, and watching people celebrate, now I get to be one of them.”

Annabel, who lives in St John’s, Worcester, has worked at the University of Worcester for more than 17 years, in a variety of roles, largely in the field of outreach work. Currently she is the Manager of the Children’s University programme and runs the University’s annual storytelling festival for children, known as Beeline.

She has worked with many children and families through her work at the University over the years and graduates today with a Foundation Degree in Collaborative Working with Children, Young People and Families.

“The course has provided me with a greater understanding of families and how each family have their own needs - we are not all of the same mould,” she said. “I have learned how to adapt my practice to meet different needs.”

She added: “On a personal level gaining an FdA at my age is a great accomplishment and something I never thought I would do. I have made some amazing friends on my course and through my placements.”

Annabel, who is now working towards a full Bachelors’ degree, juggled studies with continuing to work full time at the University. “It was challenging trying to fit studying and placement in with work and family life, but I have received so much support, it’s been fantastic.”
