The University of Worcester has once again been ranked among the top 10 most sustainable universities in the country.
It has been awarded First Class Honours in the latest People & Planet national rankings for the 15th straight year and placed at 9th spot nationally.
The 2025/26 table, which is compiled annually by the UK student campaigning network, People & Planet, ranks 147 universities in the UK across a range of environmental and ethical performance measures.
Professor John-Paul Wilson, Pro Vice Chancellor Research and Chair of the University’s Sustainable Development Committee, said: “Retaining our place among the UK’s top 10 sustainable universities reflects the depth of our commitment to tackling the climate crisis through education, research, and action. This achievement is thanks to the dedication of our staff, students, and partners, and it strengthens our resolve to lead by example and innovate for a more sustainable future.”
The People & Planet University League has been running over a decade and ranks universities according to their green credentials – awarding First Class, 2:1, 2:2, 3rd Class and Failed to each university. It looks at aspects including environmental policy, carbon management, how sustainably food is produced, how the University equips students with the knowledge and understanding of sustainability, energy sources, waste and recycling, and reduction of carbon and water use.
Katy Boom, Director of Sustainability at the University, said: “Sustainability at Worcester is embedded in to how we operate every day. From reducing waste to creating green spaces and sustainable food options, we’re working hand-in-hand with our community and co-creating with students, to make real, measurable change. Our goal is to ensure that every student leaves Worcester equipped to champion sustainability in their future careers.”
