University Leader Welcomes Return of European Study Scheme
Thursday, 18 December 2025
The University of Worcester’s Vice Chancellor has welcomed the UK’s decision to rejoin the Erasmus student exchange scheme from 2027, ending a six-year absence.
The move will give UK students the chance to study, train, or volunteer across Europe once again.
Professor David Green CBE DL, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Worcester, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for young people in the UK. Going overseas as part of their university, further education or apprenticeship journey is generally a hugely positive and even transformative experience.”
He added: “Our biggest trading partner is the EU, which also includes some of our closest democratic allies. The greater understanding and closer links that will result from many more EU students coming to Britain and young British people studying in Europe will be invaluable for the years ahead.”
Joe Dipple studied abroad as part of his degree at the University of Worcester, travelling to Sweden and New Zealand. He said: “Studying abroad was an experience of a lifetime for me. I was able to study new things I was interested in, see so many beautiful places and try so many new activities that I had never done before.”
He added: “It was such an enriching experience that I would have never been able to do without the support from the University. Rejoining the Erasmus Programme would be a fantastic opportunity to enable even more people like me to take part in such an incredible opportunity’.
