A distinguished journalist and a former winner of the Great British Bake Off will receive Honorary Degrees from the University of Worcester at next week’s graduation celebrations.
Lindsey Hilsum is the International Editor for Channel 4 News and is renowned for her fearless reporting from global conflict zones including Rwanda, Iraq, Syria, and Ukraine.
Born in Worcestershire, her reporting has consistently brought critical global issues to public attention with depth and humility.
Nadiya Hussain MBE is a television chef, author and presenter who won the Great British Bake Off in 2015 and has since become a celebrated figure across the nation for her work on mental health and cultural identity.
Since rising to fame, Nadiya has used her platform to inspire others through her openness about mental health, her creative achievements, and her personal story of resilience.
“I was shocked to receive this award,” said Nadiya. “But I am happy to receive it with grace and gratitude. To be recognised for the work I do is a huge honour, especially because I don’t do it for recognition.”
They’ll be among hundreds of graduates receiving their degrees in subjects spanning healthcare, education, business, sports, science, arts, and humanities. Ceremonies will be taking place in Worcester Cathedral on Tuesday (9th), Wednesday (10th) and Thursday (11th).
Alongside the graduates and recipients of Honorary degrees, several people will also be awarded Honorary University Fellowships.
The Bollywood actress and world-famous teacher Dr Swaroop Sampat Rawal, who studied for her PhD at the University of Worcester, will become a Fellow, as will Rob Draper, the celebrated Worcester-based artist who supported students at the University to create a huge mural at the University’s Severn Campus.
