Moving to the UK from the Czech Republic, during the middle of a global pandemic, was a daunting experience for Lucie Kovářová. But after three years of hard work at the University of Worcester, she is celebrating a First Class Honours degree.
“The pandemic did make inclusion to the new environment more difficult at the beginning,” she pointed out. “Luckily, I found so many great people around me and together with the positive approach of the lecturers, the friendly atmosphere on the campus and the personal growth opportunities, I gained so many positive experiences during my stay in Worcester.”
Lucie studied Physical Education and Sports Coaching Science.
“As an international student I was excited to explore a new culture, develop my English and embrace different approaches in sports environments,” she said. “The course offered me the possibility of a dual career both as a PE teacher and a sports coach, moreover, it consisted of interesting modules that I believe will support my future journey.”
Lucie worked as an Event Ambassador and as a Steward at the University of Worcester Arena during her studies. She also achieved a Gold Worcester Award for her outstanding extra-curricular activities.
“I enjoyed trying new things and challenging myself, including travelling, playing basketball at Varsity 2023, performing in the Dance Society and many more, which shaped my perspective on sports and life overall,” she stated.
Lucie said she enjoyed the practical lectures, using the specialist laboratories and modern facilities. “The best academic memory would be the conference at the end of the third year, where we presented the dissertations and celebrated our successes together with classmates and friends,” she highlighted.
She added: “I am so glad that I had opportunities to meet inspirational people and great friends, get involved with university events, and overcome personal and academic boundaries. University life left me with unique memories and skills. I am looking forward to celebrating graduation and studying for a Postgraduate degree to further specialise in the sports industry.”
The University’s annual autumn Graduation Ceremonies will take place as planned from September 12-14 in the beautiful and historic Worcester Cathedral, followed by celebration receptions at the City Campus. No Worcester graduates have been affected by the marking and assessment boycott.
