Jennifer Handford, from Bovey Tracey, Devon, said: “I am immensely proud of my achievements. On a personal level it was really tough, but, despite everything, I was able to obtain that which I had striven so hard for.”

Jennifer studied for her degree with the University of Worcester through the Learning Institute, allowing her to stay at home in the South West.

“The University of Worcester allowed me to study whilst still working and supporting my family. It was this degree of flexibility that enabled me to pursue my First,” she said.

“I had high aspirations from the start, and the lecturers at Worcester gave me great support whilst also challenging me to fulfil my potential.

“I have also made some life-long friends at university. It has been a challenging but immensely rewarding experience.”

The 47-year-old previously worked as a Portage Home Visitor, providing a home-visiting service for pre-school children with special needs, and as an Outreach Project Worker for a Children's Centre.

“Although I had the experience of working with families, I didn't have the right qualification to work for the CAMH Service as a Family Support Worker,” she said. “My degree has fulfilled a dream and allowed great personal growth and development. I am passionate about facilitating the right kinds of support and care for disadvantaged children and their families, and now my degree will enable me to take this passion to the next level.”

Jennifer is planning to pursue further study to augment her existing skills and experience, before starting a role as a family support worker.
