Professor Kay Mohanna is a partner in general practice in the UK and a trainer, with expertise in supporting trainees in difficulty. She served as the Royal College of General Practitioners' International Development Advisor for South Asia for ten years and now supports Cyprus in this role.

She was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in 2015 for her work in faculty development, particularly overseas, and previously served as a GMC PLAB Examiner.

She joined the University of Worcester as Professor of Values Based Education in 2015 and established visiting fellowships for post-MD GPs from Sri Lanka. All fellowship participants have since become consultants in their home country, including one who is now President of the College of GPs.

Her doctoral research focused on fairness in assessment, particularly the experiences of international medical graduates undertaking the Clinical Skills Assessment in UK GP training. Using conversation analysis, her research explored the role of small talk in consultations.

Teaching Interests

I have developed and delivered three Masters in Medical Education programmes and have run face to face programmes in seven different countries.

I have also worked collaboratively with international partners in online teaching including the Philadelphia-based Foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education (FAIMER) and iHEED Medical Education, with students in up to 20 different countries.

I facilitate learning, write and give invited lectures on values-based practice and leadership having previously been co-director of the Keele Clinical Leadership Academy.

I am the author of the RCGP eLearning module on Allyship and regularly run webinars on bystander awareness.

I co-supervised to completion a PhD student using self-determination theory to look at medical training in an emergency department. I have two current supervisees looking at the lived experience of patients with early onset bowel cancer and missed opportunities for learning from Coroners Reports
