Parents and Carers of University Students Invited to Talk

Info for parents

The event, held by the University of Worcester on Thursday July 3, will cover a range of areas and is available to anyone, wherever their young person is going to university.

The talk will cover areas including helping a young person navigate their exam results and the university application process, and how clearing works.

A panel will share tips and advice on helping your loved one budget, prepare for taking care of themselves and building their skills as an independent adult.

Anyone who signs up will also have access to written resources aimed at helping parents and carers of young people who are leaving home navigate the emotional side of this transition.

Sian Gould, who works at the University, will be taking part in the discussion. She said: “We’ll be discussing topics relevant to all parents and carers in this talk, so we were keen that it wasn’t just for parents of students who are coming to study with us here at Worcester.”

She continued: “I have first hand experience of my step-daughter going away to university, so I know how much there is to think about, how much they have to learn, and how we as parents and guardians can help them.”

She added: “I also know how tough it can be when you know how much you’re going to miss them, so we’ll have plenty of advice on that front too.”

There’ll also be plenty of opportunities for parents to ask questions.

The talk, which will cover everything from applications to healthy eating, is completely free, and is taking place between online between 6pm and 7pm on July 3.
