Andy Hale is an experienced primary school practitioner with a career of over 30 years in primary schools, the last fifteen of which were as Headteacher. Andy started with the University of Worcester in October 2019 as an Associate Lecturer, largely supporting student placements and student recruitment.
Andy’s introduction to primary education came following his Bachelor of Education degree from Wolverhampton University. He then worked in five primary schools in the Dudley borough He achieved NPQH in 2003 before commencing his post as a Headteacher in 2004.
With the challenges caused by the pandemic in early 2020, Andy increased his role to support students as a coach/mentor and took on an increased teaching role. Andy now teaches on PG and UG courses and he was previously Primary Partnership Lead for two and a half years. Andy is now the department lead for Tutoring and has several other roles, including being an Academic Integrity Tutor and an advocate for Mental Health Training.
Over recent years, Andy has also been a trainer for NPQH and NPQML courses as well as an external marker for NPQ assignments and has wide experience in training and development for teachers and school leaders. He is also trained as a coach for leadership teams.
Andy is a keen musician and sports enthusiast, with an eclectic taste in music and a particular liking for cycling, going to the gym, rugby and walking, Andy also loves to travel and especially visit warm and sunny places. He also has a really keen interest in developing the confident and resilience of students.
Andy’s teaching specialisms lie in Maths and Professional Studies, focussing also on deliberate practice and coaching. He has a particular passion for student and staff wellbeing and mental good health. Andy is a qualified Mental Health First Aider.
