I have supported people with learning disabilities since 2008 when I worked at a summer camp in upstate New York, USA for adults and children with special needs. I returned to the camp for the summers of 2009, 2010, and 2011 and knew then that I wanted a career supporting people with a learning disability. I qualified as a Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities (RNLD) in 2014. Since qualifying, I have worked as a staff nurse in a private autism hospital, NHS community learning disability teams, and learning disability acute health liaison nursing. I qualified as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in 2023 and worked as an ACP in Worcestershire Community Learning Disability Team until 2026 when I joined the University.

Students from adult, child, and mental health fields often requested spoke days in the LD team so I grew to enjoy supporting students to develop knowledge and competence when supporting people with learning disabilities.

Prior to joining the university full time, I had experience as a visiting and associate lecturer at the University where I enjoyed teaching about the needs of people with learning disabilities to students from other fields of nursing practice.

As a full-time lecturer, I hope to bring my learning disabilities expertise and help students develop skills and knowledge in meeting the needs of people with learning disabilities.
