Richard has 15 years' experience teaching Physical Education and sport in the secondary and further education sectors. He has a real passion for education and sport education in particular focusing on providing people with the skills and desire to be active and healthy for their entire lives. Richard enjoys participating and spectating almost every sport but in particular, rugby, triathlons and gymnastics.

  • PGCE Secondary PE, University of Southampton (2002)
  • BSc Sport Science, Coventry University (2001)

Teaching & Research

Teaching Interests:

Richard is particularly interested in Physical Education for secondary school age students. This is to include games sports, racket sports, gymnastics and athletics. Richard particularly enjoys sport science topics such as anatomy and physiology, sports nutrition and sports injuries.

Research Interests:

Richard has recently worked on a collaborative project in partnership with UK colleges, the British Council and partner colleges in China to develop a football coaching education pathway for Chinese football coaches. Richard is interested in the delivery of sport scientific content with the PE curriculum and accredited PE and sports courses and also the development of policy within the 14-19 curriculum.

External Responsibilities

Richard is a member of the coaching staff at Stratford upon Avon Rugby Club.
