James is the School of Sport and Exercise Science (SSES) Strength and Conditioning Technical Demonstrator. Having joined the University, initially as a student in 2011, James has been a member of the SSES team in a number of different roles since 2012.

James is an accredited Strength and Conditioning coach (UKSCA) and since 2012 he has provided S&C support to a range of teams at the University, as well as working locally and nationally with athletes ranging from elite to amateur level. He has previously worked with the England Lacrosse Women's U19s and is currently S&C coach to the Worcester Rowing Club. James also continues to enjoy playing competitive rugby.

  • BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching Science, University of Worcester (2014)
  • Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
  • UKSCA Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach
  • Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training
  • Level 2 Principles of Sports Coaching

Scope of Role at the University

James's role at the University involves providing S&C support to a number of UW teams and athletes, alongside assisting with the S&C programmes for the Worcester Wolves and Severn Stars. He also provides support to several external high performing athletes. James also supports S&C based academic modules on both practical and classroom sessions.

Internal Responsibilities:

In addition to the above, James assists in the mentorship of work placement students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, delivers CPD to student S&C coaches and provides research support to staff and dissertation students.

External Responsibilities:

Industry Background

James has worked in Strength and Conditioning for a number of years. Local teams he has worked with include Worcester Swimming Club, Worcester Wolves and Worcester Reds Netball. James gained a masters degree in Applied Sport Science at the University of Worcester in 2014 and now works with the University of Worcester performance teams and athletes as well as the Worcester Wolves and Severn Stars.

Externally James has previous experience at Worcester Warriors, GB Wheelchair Basketball and the England Lacrosse u19s girl’s national academy, and is S&C coach with Worcester Rowing Club.
