Emily Baker joined the University of Worcester in 2026 whilst finishing her PhD in Microbiology at Aston University. Her PhD focussed on the repurposing of metal-based photosensitiser compounds as dark-active antimicrobials, which were originally designed for anticancer photodynamic therapy.
Prior to her PhD, Emily graduated from Aston University in 2022 with a First-class degree in Applied Biomedical Science. During her degree, she undertook a one-year placement working within an NHS Clinical Microbiology laboratory as a Trainee Biomedical Scientist. Here, she completed the IBMS Registration Portfolio and became a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
Emily’s interests lie within Microbiology and other Biomedical Science fields. She is passionate about applying clinical context to her teaching and research.

Associate Fellow of Advance HE (2025).
BSc Applied Biomedical Science (Aston University, 2018-2022).
