email: james.hillier2@worc.ac.uk
James is a Lecturer in Biological Sciences with a background in academic research and the biotechnology industry. Having previously studied and carried out research at Worcester, James returned as a member of the teaching team, sharing his enthusiasm for biology with students and bringing examples from his own experiences in research and industry into his teaching. Outside of work, James is a keen runner and golfer, and enjoys getting outdoors whenever he can.
Qualifications
Biological Sciences BSc, MSc, PhD
Teaching Interests
James's teaching interests span cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, cancer biology, immunology and biotechnology.
Research Interests
James’s research interests centre on understanding and manipulating cell behaviour. His early research investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer cell biology, particularly the roles of cellular metabolism, redox regulation and signalling. This developed into research on extracellular vesicles and their role in cell-to-cell communication. More recently, his work has focused on bioengineering approaches, particularly lipid nanoparticles for the delivery of DNA and microRNAs to control cell proliferation, differentiation and phenotype. James is interested in applying these technologies across biomedical research and biotechnology.
