Dan uses his past experiences in cricket to inspire his students to achieve the best they can.  He uses his passion for coaching and developing sport in his role as assistant lecturer in the School of Sport and Exercise Science, specifically on the Cricket Coaching and Management degree.

Since Dan graduated from university in 2014, he has been involved in cricket at all levels, and for 5 years was part of the team at the Worcestershire Cricket Board developing the game at local clubs in the county and in the local community.  He has also gained a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education to further develop his skills as an educator.

Dan is a qualified level 3 cricket coach and has used his expertise in a variety of coaching environments from club training to county age group cricket and he has also volunteered on academy and regional cricket programmes for male and female cricketers in the area.  Dan also uses his coaching knowledge in performance and society cricket sessions where he is our assistant coach.

His experiences in performance sports have also led him to be involved with the performance sport and scholarship programmes at the University, supporting athletes and sports scholars throughout their time at the University.

Dan is a current ECB coach developer, training new and existing cricket coaches on their Foundation and Core Coach courses, supporting their development during the course and when they are applying their knowledge to real-life scenarios.  He will be running coaching courses at the University to help further develop coaching expertise and help students become as employable as possible.

Dan will be completing his Masters degree in Sports Coaching whilst he is working with the University and will be able to use his own learning to engage with students throughout their journey.

Scope of Role at University

Overseeing the development of cricket at the University, both on the University of Worcester Cricket Programme and the Cricket Coaching and Management Degree.

Internal Responsibilities:

  • Assistant lecturer in School of Sport and Exercise Science (specifically cricket coaching and development of sport)
  • Assistant coach to men’s and women’s cricket teams (performance and society)
  • Current student on MSc Sport (Coaching)
  • Maternity cover for performance squad administration

External Responsibilities:

  • Cricket coach for Worcestershire Cricket
  • Cricket coach for Worcestershire County Cricket Club
  • Foundation and Core Coach tutor for ECB run coaching courses

Industry Background

Dan started playing cricket at the age of 8 and has played club cricket to a high standard and has also represented Worcestershire at county age group level.  Dan still plays regular first XI cricket in Worcestershire.

Since achieving his level 2 cricket qualification, Dan has used this to develop his coaching in a variety of environments, allowing him to obtain his level 3 coaching certificate and his coach developer qualification, providing him with the opportunity to develop more cricketers across the country.
