Dan is a painter and printmaker. He is a Technical Demonstrator for Fine Art and Illustration and teaches into both of these pathways as an Associate Lecturer. His practice explores how things seen in various landscapes can be brought into his studio and used as subjects in paintings and prints.

He has exhibited widely throughout the UK, Europe and the US, and has work held in various private collections.

Research Interests

My practice is rooted in drawing as a form of research: a way of looking, recording and thinking through visual information. I work across drawing, printmaking and painting, moving between these forms as interconnected ways of exploring relationships between observation, memory, and materials.

I am interested in the processes of looking and making, and in how relatively simple visual encounters can generate more complex or ambiguous possibilities. The act of drawing provides a space for investigation, where images can develop through repetition, alteration, accumulation or chance. Works emerge through a process of testing and reworking, allowing ideas to remain provisional, open-ended and responsive to the possibilities that arise through the process itself.

I am interested in the tension between the observed and the imagined, and in the ways that fragments and structures can shift between recognition and abstraction.
