Dr Chris Poyner is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Worcester. He co-leads the Suicide Prevention theme within the THRIVE Rural Mental Health Research Unit at University of Worcester.

Chris is an experienced qualitative researcher, who has recently finished an NIHR DEMCOMM (Dementia Communities of Practice) Fellowship where he gained funding for and completed extensive dementia care research. Chris has conducted a wealth of research with people disproportionately impacted by poor mental health and social exclusion, including people experiencing homelessness and LGBTQ+ communities. Chris is skilled in engaging with experts by experience through meaningful PPI and co-production methodologies.

Research interests

Chris is interested in co-producing research with local stakeholders and VCSE organisations, to address structural inequalities, and improve outcomes and services for people living with severe mental illness in rural communities.
