Charlotte is a senior lecturer in Physical Education and in addition to this role, leads the University’s UW Sport programme.  The UW Sport programme carefully considers the needs of scholarship athletes and high-performance BUCS student athletes and ensures they are able to continue to develop on their athletic journey whilst at university.

Charlotte is passionate about the development and progression of these athletes on talent pathways, ensuring that they get exceptional levels of additional pastoral and sport science support whilst engaged in study to ensure that their dual careers can be fulfilled without compromise.  Furthermore, Charlotte is nominated as the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) Lead, UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) Lead and Dual Career Coordinator (DCC) at the University and oversees the management of these schemes and their implementation at the University.

Charlotte continues to play sport and has had notable success as an athlete in football, hockey and Rugby, achieving international status in Rugby.

Teaching & Research

Teaching

Owing to her own academic and education pathway, Charlotte’s teaching interests are vast and varied with specific interest across three different sport disciplines; Outdoor Education, Physical Education and Sports Coaching.

Charlotte holds teaching awards in gymnastics, lacrosse, swimming, badminton, tennis and volleyball.

Charlotte has also had success supporting independent research project students with research focus areas in dual careers, combining sport and study at a high performance level. 

Research

Research interests include:

  • Fundamental Movement Skills, specifically focussing on the implications for athlete development, talented athlete transitions, dual careers and athlete lifestyle as well as exploring how to support dual career student athletes through Higher Education.
  • Students' perceptions of employability skills and using visual aids in an informal environment to enhance student feedback.
  • Investigating the use of emotional freedom technique for dual career athletes. A case study.
  • Developing students' employability skills through their active engagement with a self-audit tool and the online resource 'usemyability'. A Students as Academic Partners (SAP) project.
