Worcester Graduate and Countdown Record Holder to Host Event in City

UW Tom Stevenson

The event is being hosted by Tom Stevenson, who broke two records on the hit Channel 4 programme by achieving a score of 154 points and becoming the first contestant to progress without losing a round.

Tom was approached by FOCAL; a non-profit organisation that runs unofficial tournaments based on the show across the country and asked to host a local event.

It will take place at The Hive in Worcester on November 1 and will be the first time a FOCAL event has been held in the City. Tickets are available from £6 per person.

“It’s aimed at anyone,” said Tom. “There are lots of people who will love Countdown who I know would love to come and take part, and then there are people who’ll be more familiar with the 8 Out of 10 Cats version of the game who might like to give it a go.”

He continued: “Everyone plays all of the rounds. Contestants will play in pairs from the same letters which will be projected onto a screen and there’ll be prizes available at the end which will all be linked to the theme of Worcester and Worcestershire.”

On the day, contestants will arrive from 10:30am, with a practice round at 11:15. Games will continue through the day until the final at 17:00.

“The event is perfect for anyone who has ever fancied having a go at playing the game, but without the pressure of the studio lights!” added Tom.

Tickets are available by contacting countdowninworcester@gmail.com to request a link to order tickets. They cost £12 for a single person, or £20 for a pair. Both of these fees are halved if it’s the participants first time at a FOCAL event.
