Our Welcome Festival 2022 is a mix of live events, academic inductions and social opportunities

What happens at the Welcome Festival?  

The Welcome Festival is for new and returning students. These first few weeks on campus will help you settle in, find your way around and prepare you for university life. We are running events for everyone, from quiet on-campus meet ups, vintage clothing stalls and film nights, as well as Clubs and Societies Fairs.

So what's happening? Check out our listings below for more information on dates and tickets for the events that the University and Students' Union (SU) will be running over the Welcome Festival.

Our events listing is an indicative list of what will be occuring over the Welcome Festival Period. More events will be added to the schedule as soon as the information becomes available. Some events may incur a small charge. 

30th August - 8th September

31st August - Worcester Wednesday in the Hangar Bar

7pm – midnight

This is your starting point for the biggest and best student night in Worcester!

 

 

31st August - Music and BBQ in the Quad 4-8pm

Enjoy the party atmosphere with music and BBQ food in the quad. Grab a burger and make some friends.

 

 

1st September - Live Music in the Hangar Bar

7pm – midnight

Join us in The Hangar for a chilled-out evening with live music.

We’re teaming up with a few of our favourite local musicians to bring you some of the best live music and performances that Worcester has to offer.

And make sure you join us every Thursday throughout the semester for more great music.

 

 

2nd September - Karaoke in the Hangar Bar

7pm – midnight

Everyone’s favourite night of the week is back!

Friday night can mean only one thing at The Hangar – Karaoke! If you’re looking to channel your inner Gaga, serenade to the sound of Taylor Swift, or belt out some retro classics, this is the place to be every Friday!

 

 

6th September - Quiz night at the Hangar Bar

8pm – midnight

Our weekly Quiz Night returns with the Big Quiz this Welcome Festival.

Assemble your squad and test out your general knowledge to be in with the chance of winning our jackpot.

Join us every Tuesday night throughout the year for Quiz Night and the opportunity to walk away with a big cash prize.

 

 

6th September - An afternoon of Music and Circus Skills in the Quad

Ever wondered if you could be a circus performer? Here's your chance to find out - try out your juggling and meet new people.

 

 

6th September - Bhangra Event on the Quad

Put on your dancing shoes and experience an evening of amazing dance and good music.

 

 

7th September - Worcester Wednesday in the Hangar Bar

This is your starting point for the biggest and best student night in Worcester!

 

 

7th September - SU and Security event for accommodation students  at 5pm at the Quad

Grab a free hot drink or a mocktail and meet our SU officers, PCSOs, members of Security team and SU partners to learn about how to stay safe.

 

 

7th September - Chill out Music, Games and BBQ at the Quad

Looking for a place to chill out and socialise? We've got live music and good food in the Quad to help you relax.

 

 

7th September - Improv Night at the Quad

Learn the art of Improv and improve your confidence.

 

 

7th September - International welcome event - Arena

Workshops, campus tours and an evening social for our newly arrived international students.

9th September - Social Event for Off Campus Students - at the Quad

Do you live off Campus? Come along to our brilliant social event with circus skills, live music, a steel band and icecream to help you meet your new friends for this coming year. All students are welcome at this event.

 

 

10th September - The Welcome Fair at City Campus & SU

10am – 4pm
City Campus

Our Welcome Fair is taking place on Saturday 10th September at City Campus and this year will be our biggest fair ever!

This is your chance to meet all of our clubs, societies, and Networks, and find out more about how you can get involved in the #TeamWorc community.

We’ll also have some of our favourite local and national companies joining us and giving out some great freebies throughout the day.

And we’ve got some delicious food and drink courtesy of our friends at Chartwells.

 

 

10th September - Welcome Party at the Hangar

7pm – midnight

We’re kicking off Welcome Festival in style with the return of our huge Welcome Party on Saturday night!

 

 

10th September - Reggae night with a DJ and Live Music at the Quad

Join us for a chilled-out evening with live music.

We’re teaming up with a few of our favourite musicians to bring you some of the best live music and performances that Worcester has to offer.

 

 

11th September - Walking Tour of Worcester with the Residential Life team

Grab a bacon butty and join the Residential Life Team for a walking tour of the city.

 

 

11th September - Comedy Night (TikTok) at the Quad

7pm – midnight
Join us in The Hangar as we welcome some special guests for an evening of sure-fire entertainment and laughter.

Our Comedy Tik Tok brings you some of the fastest rising performers on the comedy scene, who all made their name on Tik Tok, and are well on their way to stardom.

 

 

11th September - Big City Picnic at City Campus

Come to City Campus for music, food, games and ice-cream. 

 

 

11th September - Evening DJ in the SU Quad

Dance and have fun in our giant marquee.

 

 

12th September - Bingelow hosted by Lana Del Gay - The Hangar

7pm – midnight

Join us at Bingelow

One of our biggest and best charity events of the year, the Colour Run, is returning to campus. Run, walk, jog, or skip – everyone can take part.

Follow our specially designed route around campus and get covered in a kaleidoscope of colours as you do it. This year’s Colour Run is going to be our biggest yet, with a brand new course taking you all around the St John’s Campus.

And if you needed any more of a reason to take part, all profits from the Colour Run will go to our RAG Charity of the Year, the Worcester Animal Rescue Shelter.

15th September - Birdwatching for Wellbeing with Dr Mike Wheeler - meeting  at the main reception of the Edward Elgar Building at 8:30am

A simple outdoor activity such as birdwatching can have a massive impact on mental wellbeing. It forces you to slow down and live in the present moment, providing a distraction from the complexities of everyday life.

Dr Mike Wheeler will take students on a birdwatching walk and talk about birds on campus. The walk will last around 45 minutes to an hour. Please bring suitable clothing for the weather! We will take contact numbers of participating students in case of cancellation due to weather.

Events Highlights 2022:

City Campus Picnic - 11th September

Come join your fellow students for an afternoon picnic under our giant marquee.

This event will be a great chance to explore City Campus with your new friends.

 

Colour Run - 14th September

Run, walk, jog, or skip your way round campus and get covered in a kaleidoscope of colours as you do it.

The Colour Run is open to everyone at the University of Worcester, regardless of your fitness level. There’s no winner, no recorded times, and no reason for you not to get involved.

All the money raised by the Colour Run goes to our RAG charity of the year.

Welcome Festival Academic Timetable

As part of your academic induction, you will learn more about your course, and meet your fellow students and your lecturers. 

Your Course Tutors will set out your Welcome Festival academic timetable for you.  Your first week features a range of events where you'll meet the people who will be an important part of your time at Worcester, and have opportunities to find out more about the exciting University community you have joined!

Remember to download the International Welcome Guidebook App on the App Store or Google Play or our Student Life Guide if you’re a home student. This will tell you about events and activities taking place over the Welcome period.

The app will provide you with campus maps and local information such as shops, banks and travel. You'll also find answers to questions often asked by first year students and who to contact for help and advice.
