Professor Derek Peters has been bestowed with Fellowship of the British Association of Sport & Exercise Sciences (BASES), the professional body for sport and exercise sciences in the UK. The Fellowship is in recognition of his professional achievement, skills, knowledge and service to BASES and the sport and exercise science community.

Professor Peters already holds a Higher Education Academy National Teaching Fellowship in recognition of his impact on student outcomes; and Fellowship of the European College of Sport Science, the leading association of sport scientists at the European level, in recognition of his contribution to the development of sport science through research.

He is believed to be the first person to hold all three professional body fellowships.

"It is truly an honour to receive such a prestigious Fellowship from BASES, as the professional body for Sport & Exercise Sciences in the UK," he said. "And to become, I believe, the only person ever to hold Fellowships from both the British and European professional bodies for sport and exercise science, and the UK's national higher education teaching professional body."

Professor Peters will receive his award at the 2018 BASES Annual Conference Dinner in November at the Harrogate Convention Centre.
