The University of Worcester Arena has been voted the number one venue in the British Basketball League by fans of the sport throughout the UK.
The University's multi-purpose 2,000 seater sports facility beat off competition from a number of other prestigious sports facilities across the country to win a recent BBL vote for the best venue.
Home to the University's Worcester Wolves basketball side, the University of Worcester Arena, topped the poll with spectators from across the country over venues like the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, the Barclaycard Arena, in Birmingham, The O2, in London, and the newly built Leicester Arena.
Mick Donovan, the University of Worcester's Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor (Inclusive Sport & Educational Development), said: "The University of Worcester Arena was created with a clear focus upon an inclusive approach to sport and engaging as many people as possible." Clearly basketball forms a significant part of what we provide at the Arena and we are delighted that British basketball fans have recognised it as a venue they enjoy coming to above all others, reflecting the great atmosphere we create on match day."
BBL Chief Operating Officer, Andy Webb, said: "Although pitted against other excellent BBL venues across the country, the University of Worcester Arena's facilities and atmosphere clearly stood out to the public." They must also suit the home side too, who are unbeaten at the Arena in eight games and have not lost there since the beginning of the year."
The University of Worcester Arena is the first and currently only venue purpose-designed to meet the needs of the wheelchair athlete and was the training base of British Wheelchair Basketball in the run up to their most successful Paralympic Games ever. It is has played host to a number of national and international tournaments in netball, badminton and Taekwondo, among many others.
In March, representatives of the Japanese Paralympic Committee paid their 4th visit to Worcester to see the University's inspiring work in disability sport and visit the Arena as they prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
