A series of special events will take place this summer to celebrate five years of The Hive in Worcester.
The festivities will begin on Saturday 8 July and will run for three weekends starting with a Great Hive Cake-Off, a competition for both junior and senior bakers who have what it "bakes" to create a winning, show-stopping cake. Further information on this culinary competition will be available on The Hive Facebook and Twitter pages in the coming weeks.
A dance performance by Watch Out Worcester Dance Fest will be taking place on Saturday 22nd July. There will also be an exhibition celebrating The Hive's many achievements from the 2nd to the 9th July.
Laura Worsfold, Business Development Manager at The Hive, said: "The Hive has had such a huge impact on the community over the last five years and has redefined the way that people use libraries.
"We would love for everyone to help us celebrate this year and tell us why they love The Hive and what we can do in the next five years to help us move forward to even greater things."
Members of the public are encouraged to send their thoughts, photos, poems and memories of The Hive to hiveadminteam@worcestershire.gov.uk, so that they can be included in the celebratory exhibition.
The Hive was opened by HRH The Queen in July 2012, as a partnership between the University of Worcester and Worcestershire County Council. It was the first joint university and public library in Europe. Since opening it has won 18 awards, including recognition for its impact on the community, welcomed over 10,000 schoolchildren, received over 4 million visits and seen a rise in book issues of 174%.
Other Hive at Five events taking place throughout the year, include author talks, further exhibitions, workshops for schools and a keynote speaker conference in March 2018.
