Professor Alex De Ruyter, Director of the Centre for Brexit Studies, based in Birmingham, will be speaking on the topic, with a lecture titled The Twists and Turns of BREXIT and its impact in the West Midlands – an insider perspective!

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the University’s City Campus, on Wednesday, June 12, at 6pm.

In his lecture, Professor De Ruyter will explore the impact of Brexit specifically on the West Midlands and how it will affect local businesses and the community.

Professor De Ruyter and his colleagues at the Centre for Brexit Studies, which is based at Birmingham City University, represent a wealth of research experience.  He was part of the Birmingham City Council/West Midlands Combined Authority Brexit Commission advising on the likely impact of Brexit.

Professor De Ruyter’s work has focused on globalisation, regional economic development, labour market and social exclusion issues.  He has published over 60 academic outputs in leading national and international economic journals.  He is currently researching on the likely impact of Brexit on businesses, and especially those within the UK automotive supply chain.

He said: “Brexit could clearly have a huge impact on business in the West Midlands and in this lecture I will attempt to shed some light on what I think are the key issues and impacts it could have based on a variety of scenarios, and drawing on evidence from key sectors such as the automotive industry.”

The lecture is also a chance to meet with Anne-Marie McTavish, the new Head of the University of Worcester’s Business School, who will be giving the official welcome.
