Carl Ofiaeli, a former pupil at Birmingham Metropolitan College, has just completed his HND in Business Management at the University of Worcester.

The 19-year-old was offered the position as a Graduate Sales Executive with BMW Mini at the Solihull branch following fierce competition.

"The process took a month to complete from start to finish," he said. "I was absolutely ecstatic when I heard I had been successful - I nearly did cartwheels."

Carl will have to undergo nine months of training that will help him to develop his sales skills. "The role currently involves learning the whole process of becoming a professional sales executive by completing IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) which is a fully accredited course with QAA (Quality Assured) certificate at the end of the 9 months," he said.

Carl feels that the HND he studied at the University of Worcester helped him to achieve his graduate job and has built his independence and confidence.

"One major thing the university did was to boost my confidence, through offering the opportunity to be a STAR (Student Academic Representative)," he said.

"This involved going to meetings with lecturers and other representatives and talking about any issue or praises to be mentioned, about the business management course. Essentially I was speaking on behalf of my classmates, I did this for a year, and then the following year, I became a student ambassador which involved me talking to a wide majority of prospective students and parents."

Talking about his new job and his plans for the future, Carl said: "I love the job; I feel the whole team is on the same wavelength, everyone gets along with each other and it's great that there's always something different every day. My plans are essentially to sell as many cars as possible and continue to work my ranks up within the Sytner Group."
