Lakeside Campus to Host Hospice Rainbow Run

St Richard's Hospice's third Rainbow Run will offer 2.5km and 5km routes and will take place on Sunday 10th July at the University's Lakeside Campus.

The Lakeside Campus, at Top Barn, Holt Heath, is the most recent addition to the facilities at the University of Worcester.

Director of Sport Partnership and Community Engagement at the University, Susie Hart, said: "In just 15 weeks, the University has begun to transform the site, bringing the main lake under operational management, extracting 90 boat-loads of weed in the process.

"Additional work includes groundwork preparation to create a 2.5km run loop around the site perimeter, and installation of new alarms, coupled with a complete overhaul of the activity centre electrics, water supply and boilers. In addition, new boundary fencing has been constructed and a woodland area for school bush craft engagement is currently under construction."

Both experienced athletes and complete novices can take part in Rainbow Run event. Children aged 8-16 must be accompanied by an adult. The event start will be staggered from 11am.

Chris Guillaume, from Open GI who sponsors the event, said: "We are delighted to sponsor the Rainbow Run as part of our 2016 partnership with St Richard's Hospice. It promises to be a great event for all ages and we encourage everyone to get involved and support the fantastic work being done by the hospice."

Jodi Brandwood, Events and Challenges Fundraiser at St Richard's Hospice, said: "We're delighted to be able to offer our third Rainbow Run. Our previous events have been incredibly popular and many of those who took part have already signed up to next month's event. The money raised goes towards funding specialist care and support for those at the end of their lives, so this is a day of fun with a serious message."

Turn up in your oldest and whitest sports kit and prepare to run, walk, skip or dance around the route while getting showered with colours of the rainbow. The event is not a timed race; the aim is to have fun with your friends, family and work colleagues and to finish with a smile, while raising funds for your local hospice.

St Richard's Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their families. Each year the hospice team supports over 2,600 patients and family members in Worcestershire with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
