About the Institute

A real-world approach to healthcare

With a professional, and often vocational, approach, the Institute of Health and Society’s portfolio of courses offers a real world approach to the health and social care arena. We are renowned for our ability to  prepare students for work in a wide range of occupations across health, psychology, social care or the community sectors.

Many of our courses have work-based learning placements integrated into them to provide students with experience in real work settings. Louise Jones Head of Institute

Research impact

Staff in the institute contribute to the development of knowledge and practice by engaging in a wide range of research and consultancy activities. Working in collaboration with different disciplines and with other universities, private industry and the public sector, our research is always grounded in the aim of achieving real-life benefits.

A firm foundation of academic excellence enables us to support and inspire the scientists of the future. We offer undergraduates a broad-based training with specialist options across the disciplines, while postgraduates can take advantage of a supportive and stimulating research environment.

Investing in facilities

We have excellent facilities to support the development of academic knowledge alongside the necessary professional skills. Highlights include simulation suites equipped with contemporary technical equipment, including programmable androids; and access to the University’s state-of-the-art Motion and Performance Centre.
