What is the Students’ Union?

Students' Union
Worcester Students’ Union is an independent charity devoted to the educational interests and welfare of all students studying at or gaining a qualification awarded by the University of Worcester. Once your place at University is confirmed, you automatically become a member of the Students’ Union. This amongst other things offers you the opportunity to join a sports team or society, get involved in range of volunteering opportunities, receive confidential advice from our dedicated team, as well as being able to attend a wide range of events. If you want to make the most of your time at university, then pop into one of our Union offices or visit http://www.worcsu.com/ for more information on our services and activities.

What does the Students’ Union do?

The Students’ Union represents all students and works hard to ensure that any issues and concerns that students have are addressed. The students are represented by three elected full-time sabbatical officers. Your officers for 2010/11 are:

  • President – Michael Collins
  • Vice President Education and Welfare – Sam Lewis
  • Vice President Student Groups – Liam Hughes

The sabbatical officers are accompanied by seven part-time officers, and together form the Executive Committee. The committee meets fortnightly to discuss student matters and make important decisions for the Union.

What the Students’ Union can do for students

The Students’ Union provides a free, independent, confidential and impartial advice service for all students. The service can arrange for a representative to accompany students to meetings related to appeals, complaints, plagiarism, university disciplinaries, fitness to practice or any other university meeting where a student feels they would like support and representation. Academic issues, money advice and housing problems are the main advice areas covered by the service. However, they can be the first point of call for any query.

The Students’ Union is also responsible for the administration of over 40 clubs and societies at the University ranging from Cricket to Christian Union. The majority of the sports teams compete in BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sports) leagues against other institutions. The SU also co-ordinates the annual Varsity series against the University of Gloucestershire.
