Overview
This one-year top-up degree is designed for students who already hold a foundation degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in education or a related field. It offers a direct route to a full honours degree, helping you deepen your understanding of educational theory and apply it to real-world practice.
Building on your existing qualifications and experience, you’ll explore contemporary issues in education, including inclusion and diversity, emotional barriers to learning and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. You’ll critically engage with current research and policy, examining how numerous factors influence educational practice and outcomes.
You can tailor your learning to your professional interests and career goals. You can choose from areas such as Early Years, Integrated Children’s Services, or Education, giving you the opportunity to focus on the sector most relevant to your role.
You’ll work independently and in groups to complete a varied range of assignments, sharing ideas with peers and learning from our academics. This course encourages you to investigate strategies for supporting learners, reflect on your practice and respond to the challenges of a rapidly changing educational landscape.

Teaching and assessment
Teaching is a mix of interactive seminars, lectures and one-to-one tutorials. Your assessments will help prepare you for a career in education and include a research project, reflective evaluations and reports.
Teaching and assessment contents
You will be allocated a personal academic tutor who will support you through tutorials as well as in support of two key modules over the year: the independent study and the specialism study.
You are taught through a combination of lectures and seminars supported by tutors. In sessions, interactive learning activities take a variety of formats and are intended to enable the application of learning through discussion and small group activities.
