I have been an Occupational Therapist for 19 years, practising for 14 years as a specialist Occupational Therapist in the field of Stroke Rehabilitation, and have been involved in setting up services locally to improve the quality of rehabilitation for people following Stroke. I have spent the majority of my clinical practice supporting and developing others, from students to colleagues to support staff. As a team leader and manager within the NHS I realised that this was an area in which I felt enthusiastic and energised, and was positively received by my colleagues. I have joined the Occupational Therapy lecturing team full time in 2015, having taught on the programme part time during the previous academic year and finding that I loved it! I am also a qualified gymnastics coach although I am currently taking a break from coaching due to the rigours of work & family life.

Teaching & Research
Teaching: As a kinaesthetic and auditory learner I am interested in making classroom learning accessible to all students and enjoy devising weird and wonderful tasks to help accomplish this! I am module lead for a number of subjects, including Promoting Health, Well-being and Occupation, Enabling Occupational Performance and Enhancing Employability. In addition I have a role in Practice Education, acting as one of the Practice Placement Co-ordinators.
Research: I have a clinical interest in the interplay between langauge and cognition, specifically in relation to adults with acquired apraxia. I am also interested in the area of interdisciplinary team working, the cultural barriers to achieving this and the opportunities it affords. My Masters research focussed on anxiety as a physiological response to damaged brain structures following Stroke and I am keen to explore these areas further.
