Professor Peters’ teaching and research is interdisciplinary by nature. As a Professor of Sport, Health & Exercise Science, he has taught and published across nearly all academic disciplines associated with sport & exercise science and has delivered research methods modules and training on nearly all of the courses offered within the Institute of Sport & Exercise Science at HND, Undergraduate and Taught Postgraduate levels. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds three levels of Teaching Fellowship: University Teaching Fellow, University Senior Teaching Fellow and National Teaching Fellow 2008. Professor Peters also holds Professorial position at the Faculty of Health & Sport Sciences at the University of Agder in Norway and is a Visiting Professor to the Lithuanian Sports University in Kaunas, Lithuania.

In 2013 Professor Peters received accreditation as a ‘Level 5 - Academic Expert’ from the International Society of Performance Analysis of Sport.  In June 2014, Professor Peters was one of only 350 people invited to the UK Technology Industry reception hosted by Her Majesty the Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace and in 2015 Professor Peters was bestowed with the title of ‘Fellow of the European College of Sport Science’ from the European College of Sport Science for his significant contribution to the development of sport science through research.  Professor Peters’ Impact Case Study focussing on childhood overweight submitted for assessment to the Research Excellence Framework 2014 was the only University of Worcester Research Impact Case Study to contain elements of 4* world leading impact.

Teaching

Professor Peters teaches research methods primarily at postgraduate level, and recently led the development of the Healthy Lifestyle Elective modules on the Undergraduate Programme.

He currently teaches on the following modules in addition to contributing sessions to the University’s Researcher Development Programme, the Research Supervisor Training Programme, and Research Examiner Training:

Professor Peters is a very active and successful postgraduate research student supervisor and continues to seek and support outstanding researchers in a multitude of disciplines including physical activity & health, childhood physical activity monitoring and implications, physiological demands of team and individual sports, the psychology of group dynamics in teams and most recently in regulation of performance.

Research

Professor Peters’ research interests are varied: He has published across the full disciplines associated with sport & exercise science and his projects for which he has generated over £700,000 of income are as varied.  Recent projects include:

  • Evaluation of Wolfie’s Workouts with Dr Lisa Griffiths. Wolverhampton PCT and Wolves community Trust (£29,929.00).
  • Research collaboration award to provide heart rate monitoring and global positioning system equipment to investigate the Physiological demands experienced by riders during competitive equestrian eventing (£5,325 approx.) Polar Electro Europe.
  • Evaluation of the Physical Activity Network for the West Midlands.  Physical Activity Network for the West Midlands & the Department of Health with Professor Dominic Upton and others (£5,895).
