Leaders in local politics will join senior figures from the University of Worcester and Worcester Students’ Union for a major discussion examining how climate change is already affecting our communities.

This event is a chance for students to hear directly from leading experts and decision-makers about what these changes mean for our community. We hope students will come along, bring their questions and be part of a conversation that will influence how Worcester responds in the years ahead.

Taking place in the Yelland Lecture Theatre (near Reception on St John’s Campus), the event begins at 1.30 on Friday, 13 February, with a live stream available for anyone who cannot attend in person.

Who will be speaking?

  • Tom Collins, Labour MP for Worcester
  • Cllr Lynn Denham, Leader of Worcester City Council (Labour)
  • Cllr Tor Pingree (Green Party)
  • Professor David Green CBE DL, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Worcester
  • Ronke Akintan, President of Worcester Student’s Union.

The audience will see short, filmed contributions from two world-leading climate experts:

  • Professor Hugh Montgomery OBE, speaking about the links between climate change and human health
  • Professor Hayley Fowler, focusing on how extreme weather and flooding patterns are changing.

A live panel will then explore what these issues mean for Worcester, including the health-related risks facing the region, the impact of changing weather systems, and the practical steps local institutions can take in response.

There’ll also be the opportunity for audience questions on all that is discussed.

Go Green Week

Go Green Week is a student-led event that takes place every year and is organised by first-year students studying Environmental Management and Sustainability and Geography. The week aims to raise awareness of sustainable living practices and encourage behaviour change. Working with Worcester Students' Union students and invited organisations, create a series of activities that discuss and explore sustainable options for the future.
