Julie - Teacher and Coordinator of IT (Sixth Form)
Previous Career: Business owner - professional lawn care service company (franchise)
When I sold my business and went to university, it was because I wanted to retrain for a job in the computing industry. The help and support I received from my lecturers enabled me to attain the high grades I was not sure I could achieve. Around the same time, I found myself in grateful admiration of the dedication of one my children’s high school teachers. This inspired me to pursue a change of direction and apply for teacher training.
Being a teacher is hard work. Every day is a challenge and every day has its rewards. However, if you enjoy problem solving and want to make a difference to people’s futures, I highly recommend it as a career move. It is a fantastic opportunity to help young people to take pride in their work and have the confidence in their abilities to go on to further their education and chosen career paths.
I work in a supportive establishment where everyone works for a common goal; the good of the student. I facilitate learning and, in turn, I am encouraged to continue my own professional development. I look forward to going into to work every morning because I get to spend time with so many different people and I learn something new every day. Becoming a teacher is not so much a job as a way of life and I love it.
