Graduation ceremonies FAQs

When is graduation taking place for the Class of 2020?

In-person Graduation Ceremonies for the Class of 2020 will be taking place during the week commencing 21 June 2021, with ceremonies in the morning and afternoon from Tuesday to Friday.

You should have received an email with the time and date of your specific ceremony.

If you have not received an email, but believe that you should be graduating, please contact us on graduation@worc.ac.uk

Where are the ceremonies taking place?

The celebratory events are likely to be held at Worcester Cathedral.

There will also be an outdoor reception at the City Campus, with the opportunity to be photographed in your robes against the backdrop of the beautiful, historic Charles Hastings Building.

Graduates and Guests will travel between the City Campus and the Cathedral by foot (a distance of 0.8 miles). Detailed guidance on the suggested walking route and walking times will be published shortly. Car park locations will also be published in advance, for those who need to or prefer to travel by car.

If the situation changes and there are additional Government restrictions or regulations from the Cathedral itself, there are back up options already in place (including the University of Worcester Arena and outdoor marquees), so that we can make rapid alterations to the plans. We will do everything possible to avoid making a further postponement to the ceremonies.

My particular ceremony date is inconvenient. Is it possible to swap to another ceremony within that period?

It is not possible to change a ceremony date. If you cannot attend on your ceremony day, you are very welcome to participate remotely through the live, online broadcast.

What will the ceremonies involve?

The celebrations will include all of the traditional features of our graduation ceremonies, including academic dress, photography and speeches. Most importantly, they will provide an opportunity to come together as a community and to reunite after such a difficult year.

All Graduates received their certificates through the post last Autumn, so you will not collect any further documentation on the day.

How long is each ceremony?

Each ceremony will last about an hour.

What happens if there are new Covid-19 restrictions? Will the Ceremony be cancelled?

The situation with the pandemic is still unpredictable and as we write social distancing requirements are still in place, but are due to be eased by your ceremony date at end of June.

We don’t want you to experience any further disappointments if they can be avoided, so we have been working on plans for celebrations that will allow for the greatest level of flexibility and insure against any potential restrictions as much as possible. If new guidelines are implemented, we have options for alternative venues (including outdoor spaces) so that you will be able to attend a ceremony.

Please be assured that arrangements for the event will adhere to any guidelines in place at the time.
