Email from the Vice Chancellor to Graduates - Tuesday 15 June
I am writing to update you about the final arrangements for next week’s Graduation Ceremonies.
These arrangements fully take into account the Prime Minister’s announcement last night.
These confirmed arrangements are in line with the latest Government guidance and we have worked particularly closely with health and safety experts and with Public Health Worcestershire to inform our approach. We have completed a very thorough risk assessment for every venue and activity and implemented a number of safety measures, which you can read about in detail on our Covid-Secure approach to Graduation webpages.
The ceremonies in Worcester Cathedral are at the heart of Graduation.
We are very happy to let you know that the ceremonies themselves will take place in the Cathedral, giving you and your classmates the opportunity to wear your very well-deserved academic gowns and be presented on stage to your Head of School, where a photograph will be taken.
I will personally participate in every ceremony to celebrate your success.
My colleagues at the University have been doing a great deal of preparatory work to ensure that your friends and family can also participate in the day.
Your guests will be able to stay with you before the ceremonies, so that they can join you for professional photographs at the City Campus. You will stay in your group, following the Government’s ‘rule of six’ guidance.
Your ticketed guests will then walk to watch the ceremony through a live broadcast at our nearby University of Worcester Arena.
The inclusion of the Arena as a venue for guests means that we can consistently maintain a distance of at least 1m+ between seats for graduates and guests during the ceremonies.
Both the Cathedral and the Arena benefit from excellent ventilation and will be well below the 50% capacity permitted by government guidance.
You and your guests will then be re-united at the post-ceremony receptions at the City Campus. The receptions will be outdoors, following social distancing regulations, with service provided from airy marquees.
Please continue to follow the latest updates on our dedicated Graduation website and do get in touch with us on email@example.com if you have a specific question.
I very much look forward to welcoming you back to the University for a wonderful and very well earned celebration of your success.
With all best wishes,
Professor David Green CBE DL
Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive
University of Worcester
