What qualifications will you need?
Either a first or second-class Honours Degree or equivalent.

What will you study?

This programme is a specialised and highly contemporary course in which you will study the very latest trends and developments in product and services marketing. You will explore shifting market and consumer behaviours; the hyper-competitive and turbulent nature of marketplaces; and how to effectively manage ever-changing technology via strategies for the physical place and the virtual space.
You will develop as a sound decision-maker with the capability to create sustainable marketing strategies to safeguard long-term competitive advantage for an organisation.
Teaching and Assessment
How will you be taught?
The course is designed to be student-centred and features a significant amount of independent research and study, with the support of experienced and well-qualified tutors. Assessments will focus on research projects based on issues affecting your own organisation and your role within it.
The Research module is followed by a supervised 10,000 word Dissertation, which allows you to draw upon your knowledge of marketing through applied research, focused upon organisation or sector-specific environments.
Typically lectures in Worcester Business School are two or three hours long. During this time, you will experience a range of learning activities intended to stimulate you and enable you to learn effectively.
Lectures usually begin with a classroom lesson that lasts around 45 minutes, introducing the underpinning concepts of a topic. You will be expected to participate here – by offering your opinion, by using an Electronic Voting System or by interrupting when you wish to challenge what the lecturer is suggesting.
After the introductory lecture you will often be split into small seminar groups during which you will work individually or with two or three other students on case studies which will enable you to explore the subject in greater depth. We believe that collaborative learning with your fellow students is very important.
Between lectures you will carry out further study - we adopt an ‘open door’ policy and you will be encouraged to seek the help of lecturers. Most class materials will uploaded to Blackboard (our VLE) before sessions and these materials can be downloaded at University or from anywhere with an internet connection. Many modules have set up on-line discussion facilities to enable you to collaborate with other students between sessions.

Abdul is the Master’s course leader. He has a PhD degree in Business Administration (Decision Making and Risk Analysis) from Manchester Business School, MSc Project Management from Heriot-Watt University and BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering with specialisation in Construction Project Management from Al-Baath University, Syria.
Before joining the University of Worcester he worked as a Senior Lecturer in Project Management at the University of Bedfordshire Business School for 3 years. Professionally, Abdul worked as a construction project manager in Syria between 2003 and 2006.
Dr Helen Watts
Helen’s expertise lies in Business Psychology; applying psychology to the workplace and to the marketplace. Helen has a PhD, focusing on customer retention in fitness clubs, combining consumer psychology, occupational psychology and sport and exercise psychology. Helen is also experienced in a range of research methods, quantitative and qualitative and has engaged in Knowledge Transfer projects as well as commercial research projects in the private sector.
Helen is also responsible for managing applied research projects in the Business School, helping to support the business community with their research needs. Worcester Business School is comprised of research experts across many business areas (e.g. HR, Marketing, Management, Innovation) who can help businesses to obtain the insight they require.
Nigel has had a long association with the Business School, combining his tutoring and consultancy with work for The Open University and other international organizations. He is responsible for the management and delivery of an enterprise programme, funded by the HE Funding Council, and aimed at Undergraduate students who aspire to running their own business on Graduation.
He has also contributed to the University’s Enterprise Fellowship Scheme which supports high achieving Undergraduates to further develop their enterprise ideas. Nigel has completed a number of Innovation Voucher consultancies with SMEs on behalf of the University, and has broad experience of e-tutoring and supporting group activity remotely both with Worcester and the Open University.
Laila is interested in research that advances the theory as well as the practice of various organisations. Her research expertise lies in the internationalisation of firms and subsequent capability development. She is also interested in migrant entrepreneurship and the relationship between migrant entrepreneurs and their customers.
Laila is a member of the Complex Customer Interactions Research (CCIR) group and the Applied Research group reflecting her interests in consumer research and providing research support to businesses.
Dr Richard Nicholls
Richard’s main teaching and research interests focus on the management and marketing of services. His specialist areas include interaction between service customers; providing services for older consumers; and customer misbehaviour.
Richard has extensive international experience and has taught at a number of European universities, including the European Business School in Frankfurt, Poznan University of Economics and Warsaw University.
Where could it take you?
This course will equip students who are either embarking upon a career in business, or are already established in their role, with both the generic skills required to successfully operate in a management role, and the more detailed expertise demanded from those working within the marketing area
Subject to permission by UK Visa and Immigration on application of your visa you can choose to take a 6 month internship, extending the 12 month Masters course to 18 months. Whilst an internship of your choice is not guaranteed the Business School will support you to be successful in finding a suitable internship to gain important experience within the UK workforce.
Students choosing to undertake the optional internship will have access to a placements preparation module and careers advice and support, which will assist you in preparation for interviews, CV writing, understanding assessment centres etc. Thereafter, you will be able to apply to spend your internship at an organisation of your choice, anywhere in the UK or abroad (once confirmed with the Placements Office). Students have taken internships in DHL, Daimler, Borwell, Herefordshire & Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service, ISOQS, Sight Concern, Southco, St Richards Hospice, and Worcestershire County Cricket Club.
WBS also have links with national companies through placement programmes such as Aldi, Asda, Atos, Bosch, CGI, Eaton, Eli Lilly, Enterprise Rent A Car, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, Jaguar Land Rover, Lenova, Lidl, Marks & Spencer, Mercedes, Microsoft, Napp, Porsche, Volkswagen, Volvo and Waitrose.

The Government may provide a loan of up to £10,000 per student for postgraduate Masters study. It will be at your own discretion whether the loan is used towards fees, maintenance or other costs.
