As an events manager, Stephen has to work in an extremely busy environment requiring high levels of competence in prioritising, co-ordinating, communicating and decision-making. Managing around 100 events a year with approximately 80,000 spectators and participants in attendance, Stephen manages a team of event staff (currently 140) to help support the running of events.

Stephen is also normally the first point of contact with members of the public, staff, students, sporting bodies and other external organisations in relation to events, providing advice and recommendations on the events available and planned. Stephen is also required to research and identify opportunities for further income generation of events and negotiate with potential organisations to gain their financial support.

Qualifications:

  • BSc (Hons) Degree in Public Services Management 2:1
  • Level 3 (UEFA B) Coaching qualification in football

Industry Background

Stephen has spent over 7 years in both the events and sporting industry, from being a Sports Development Officer for the Council to organising large-scale events such as Race for Life and the 2012 Olympic torch relay, he has worked in a range of environments and with an assortment of people across the Midlands.

Scope of Role at the University

Stephen helps to achieve the strategic aims of both the University of Worcester and the School of Sport and Exercise Science, particularly in relation to its reputation for excellent inclusive education and sporting events through collaboration and joint working with a range of partners and stakeholders.
