Senior Lecturer in Fine Art
Institute of the Arts
James Fisher is a painter and his research is predominantly undertaken through practice. He has exhibited widely over the past decade, in the UK and elsewhere. His work, which draws on the intersections between painting, poetry and music, is held in public collections in the USA and Europe. James was a recipient of the Abbey Scholarship in Painting at the British School at Rome in 2001 and the resident artist at Aldeburgh Music Festival in 2009.
James’ teaching is led by his research, and he has a particular responsibility for the graphic areas of Fine Art such as printmaking and drawing. He is currently undertaking research in the pedagogical use of sketchbooks, notebooks and journals in the learning and teaching of Fine Art. He is Course Leader for BA Fine Art Practice.
James' recent exhibition, Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear, was held at Campden Gallery, Gloucestershire in December 2012.
