The open MBA in Executive Leadership & Management is a powerful Postgraduate programme comprising bite-size packages of learning designed to deliver individual and business impact.

Our MBA in Executive Leadership & Management is a transformative programme of study targeted at practicing managers looking to develop their leadership capability.

Designed to minimise disruption to busy working lives the programme is delivered one evening a week over three terms with classes in year one on a Thursday evening, year two on a Wednesday evening, and in year three on a Tuesday evening all running from 18.15 to 21.15. Normally the programme of study can be completed in three years.  The programme is facilitated by experienced practitioner focussed academics who have a track record in Executive Education and teaching Masters level students.

Each module aims to develop business leadership, management skills, and understanding.  Collectively the programme builds a critical appreciation of the theories, tools, techniques and applications of leading and managing the contemporary organisation.

Aligned with the programme is optional membership of the Chartered Management Institute and dual accreditation with their Certificate in Strategic Management* which is available upon the completion of the programme and provides a valuable validation of your development as a practicing manager.

What qualifications will you need?

Entry requirements

The MBA in Executive Leadership & Management is appropriate for you if you have experience of senior management in either a commercial or public sector environment. You need not necessarily have had previous exposure to studies in business, leadership or management.

Applicants will normally have a first or second-class Honours Degree or equivalent in any subject and at least two years of business/management experience at a senior level.

The IELTS score for international applicants is 6.5 (with no less than 5.5 in each component). Other English Language qualifications will be considered. Find out more about language requirements and support.

How will you be taught?

You will learn how to

Alongside your academic development, you will be able to develop key transferable skills, including:

The course is designed to be student-centred and work-related, featuring a significant amount of group work and case study analysis. Marcos Campos

The journey from the first rung of the employment ladder to the top of the business world can seem like a long one, but, for Marcos Campos, who has graduated from the University of Worcester’s Business School as a Master of Business Administration, life is all about the journey.

Having moved to England from Goiania, in Brazil, in 2006, Marcos is used to travelling great distances in order to achieve his goals.  So, when he wanted to take his career to the next level, Marcos turned to the University of Worcester to help him find a way to take his organisation forward.

“Just before I started the MBA, I was promoted to the position of Director of my organisation – The Gap Community Centre,” said Marcos. “With no experience of leading a company I started looking for a course that would give me the confidence and the right skills to do the job efficiently and effectively.  The MBA at Worcester was exactly what I was looking for.”

“A lot is covered on the MBA programme and it has certainly deepened my understanding of what is required to run an organisation effectively,” said Marcos. “I feel now that I can see more clearly what lies ahead - both for me and for The Gap."

For Tristan Mitchell, an MBA from the University of Worcester was the key to unlocking his ambitious plans for the future:

“I had been moved into a management position at work but had no specific training,” Tristan said.  “I started out my career in a technical role, which used my previous Software Engineering degree - and I wanted to have a similar grounding for my new position in management.”

After researching his options, Tristan decided an MBA from the Worcester Business School would provide all the tools he would need to master his new role and steer a course for success: “Every single module on the MBA was new material for me and virtually all of it has been useful in some context in my work.”

“It has helped me to be much more confident in working at management level,” he said. “Through the course I learned a lot about myself, my leadership style and how to continue to develop professionally. It has also really helped me to deal with people, and not just those I manage, but peers and customers as well. Studying for the MBA has given me the confidence to work within senior management and my hope is that it will help me to progress to become a CEO (Chief Executive Officer) in the future.”

Mel Preedy

An MBA can take you anywhere in the world, from the top of your company to the pinnacle of industry, but how tricky is it to earn your stripes as a Master of Business Administration whilst already working full time in a management position?

Mel Preedy graduated with an MBA in Business Leadership and Management from the University of Worcester’s Business School in 2016, whilst working as part of the senior management team for Herefordshire-based Caplor Energy: “Although studying whilst working full time was tough, especially when you factor two children in to the mix, I learnt to accept that I couldn’t give absolutely everything to absolutely everything all the time,” Mel said. “I learnt to prioritise my time and focus strategically. It was particularly challenging around pinch points like my dissertation deadline, but I think my determination got me through.”

“One of the things that was holding me back from progressing my career in the way that I wanted was my limited experience in the business environment, especially at a managerial level,” Mel added. “I knew that an MBA would equip me with the tools and the leadership skills to enable me to fulfil my ambitions for the future.”

For Mel, studying an MBA at postgraduate level was a very different experience from her previous experiences as an undergraduate: “I was used to sitting in large lecture theatres being talked at, but at Worcester it wasn’t like that. I was surprised by how interactive the lectures were, and I enjoyed hearing the thoughts and ideas of class-mates in our discussions. There were people from a huge variety of backgrounds in business, so everyone had an interesting perspective to bring to the table during our discussions.”

So after all the hard work, has it been worth it?: “Definitely,” Mel said. “I have developed my professional confidence, and many of the strategies I learnt during my MBA have been very helpful in my work – in helping to develop our business plan and in devising messaging for different product lines for example. In many ways, the MBA is just the start, there’s so much more to learn," Mel added. “I see this as a base which will allow me to continue to build my knowledge and skills. I am relishing the opportunity to help develop Caplor as part of the senior management team, driving forward our core business and inspiring others on to a renewable energy journey.”
