What makes Digital Media Production and Graphic Design at Worcester special?

Digital Media Production and Graphic Design covers a broad combination of creative areas. You will learn how to design and create across a range of traditional and digital platforms to develop your concepts into reality.

Your creativity and understanding of traditional design practice, together with your development of digital skills and visual communication will allow you to tailor your course to suit your interests and career aspirations.

Using a broad range of traditional, digital and visual communication techniques, you will develop innovative, interdisciplinary final year projects that draw together your interests across both courses.

In combination, these subject areas are well worth considering if you are interested in the wider application of design across media and if you are looking for a degree that will provide you with a wide-ranging suite of visual communication skills in preparation to enter the job market.

There are regular visits to museums and exhibitions in London, Bristol and live brief related day visits and workshops too. There is also an annual opportunity to take part in a visit to a destination in mainland Europe. Student performance is assessed entirely by course work.

Teaching and assessment

How will you be taught?

Digital Media Production modules enable you to develop expertise in areas of visual communication and digital design including video, photography, motion graphics, visual effects and web content.

As well as developing your creative work and digital 'skills', you will be introduced to the creative industries and the multitude of professions and careers associated with them. Many of your projects will respond to 'live' briefs set in collaboration with industry professionals. With their own, impressive experience as creatives, your lecturers, too, are expertly placed to share with you their inside knowledge of professional work.

Graphic Design supports your development as a graphic designer with the flexibility to work in today's contexts. Your creative ideas and approaches will grow alongside your use of computer technology and your critical understanding of design and visual theory.

You will develop your team working skills and your understanding of how to respond to professional briefs, building your knowledge and experience of the current market. There are plenty of opportunities to work on 'live briefs' set by real clients from a variety of contexts, including businesses, museums, local authorities and charities. You will be encouraged to develop work for entry into competitions and increasingly to follow your own interests, whether those involve a passion for typography or print. Throughout, you will be introduced to the multitude of professional possibilities that are open to graphic designers, and there are plenty of opportunities to visit design studios and meet industry clients.
