Sam is a former scholarship athlete and graduated from the University of Worcester with a BA (Hons) History degree in 2014.

Sam has a keen interest in sport and helps to staff and run all sports facilities within the University. Sam is a former professional rugby player which allowed him to play abroad at international tournaments, gaining invaluable experience, competing alongside players such as Waisale Serevi and Stuart Hogg. He has represented Scotland U20s, Scotland 7s, Edinburgh and Worcester Warriors as a scholarship athlete of the University.

Having worked with the School of Sport and Exercise Science (SSES) as both student staff and now as a full time member of staff for 4 years, Sam made a return to competitive rugby last year, thanks to the help and support of the School's management and Strength and Conditioning team. He now balances his full time role as a Sport and Exercise Supervisor for SSES with a number of personal ventures and is looking to gain further experience working within the University.

Scope of Role at University

Sam is one of the first points of contact for academic, student and community groups who use practical facilities across three sites, which include the Sports Centre, Riverside and University Arena. Additionally, Sam works closely with the Sports Facilities Manager and fellow supervisors to ensure that daily operations are kept at a high standard, whilst offering operational support to all groups and individual students who visit the University's practical sports facilities.

Internal Responsibilities:

Sam assists the Facilities Manager and supervisory team in timetabling all academic, student sport, community, senior and recreation practical facility usage across all sports sites. Furthermore, Sam works closely with the part time sport and exercise assistants, leading on staffing across sports sites and helping students manage their time under the Earn As You Learn scheme. Sam also works closely with internal and external client groups, including the Worcester Wolves and Severn Stars University of Worcester franchise teams.
