Ross Renton is the Pro Vice Chancellor Students at the University of Worcester with a wide range of responsibilities, including leading the strategy for delivering an outstanding student experience, widening participation and student success, academic and community partnerships, employability and the oversight of the professional services. He represents the University at a national level on these issues and has been an advisor to several public and private organisations.
In his previous role as Dean of Students at the University of Hertfordshire, he led a number of key projects, which included the establishment of four schools and two University Technical Colleges. His innovative work helped to secure almost £60M of investment and has proven to be a successful model.
He has experience in both the commercial and charity sectors as a Non-Executive Director of Endsleigh Insurance Services Ltd, Director of Student Volunteering Scotland, Chair/Director of NUS Services Ltd, as well as holding senior posts within the National Union of Students (NUS).
A keen supporter of inclusion and widening to access higher education (HE), Ross currently holds a variety of positions with external organisations, including Vice Chair of the Forum for Access and Widening Participation (FACE), Non-Executive Director of Graduate Prospects and HECSU (independent research charity). Ross is also a member of the Open University's Learning and Teaching Innovation Teaching Committee, Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts (RSA) and a member of the Institute of Fiscal Studies.
His research interests are in education policy and he has delivered papers on this work nationally and internationally. Ross is regularly invited to speak at conferences and write articles to share his knowledge on widening participation to HE, student retention, student engagement, HE policy and the Suicide Safer Project.
He is currently Chair of the Board of the UW Worcester Wolves, a professional basketball team and Co-Chair of the Severn Stars netball team.
