Lorraine's interests range from the physiology and behaviour of large agricultural animals to the ecology of Bryophytes, the latter being one of her main research interests.

Lorraine also carries out research on learning and teaching. With other biology tutors, Lorraine has developed a Personal Development Planning scheme which is unique to Worcester. One aspect of this is that it recognises and records the skills which students can gain, including the practical skills. Nearly all of the Biological Sciences modules contain a great deal of practical and/or field work and our PDP scheme allows students to make good use of these to improve their employability.

Lorraine has developed an extended induction programme for first year students to ease their path into undergraduate life.

Lorraine's interest in biodiversity has led to her becoming the Chair of the University’s Strategic Biodiversity Management Group which has been instrumental in the University gaining awards for sustainability. Her recent research has been in developing and using an on-line digital magazine for teaching sustainability.
