Maps, mapping and landscape have been fascinations for design lecturer Andy Stevenson since childhood, through study, in professional practice for prominent publishers and now as a central aspect of his PhD research. The research has evolved from developing the ‘emotisurvey’ to examining how recreational walkers engage with the various kinds of assistive navigational materials available today. Andy’s mapping skills are still in demand commercially; he is currently funded to develop the walking and mapping components of the new ‘Worcestershire Rail Trails’ project. This project will use a mix of paper and app-based guide materials to help recreational walkers travel on newly created walking trails between stations in Worcestershire.
