Graduation

Where and when is my graduation ceremony?

The ceremonies are held in Worcester Cathedral in the first week in November.

Dates and Times 2012

These will be confirmed by the end of March 2012

When will I receive my invitation magazine?

You will receive an email with a link to the Invitation magazines by the end of May 2012. The magazine will contain information on how to order your tickets and robes for the ceremony. Please ensure that you keep your contact details up to date via your SOLE page as all Graduation communication will be via email.

My particular ceremony date is inconvenient. Is it possible to swap to another ceremony within that period?

No, it is not possible to change a ceremony date within a ceremony period.

What happens if I am unable to attend my ceremony?

If you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. Your award will be made 'in abstentia' and we will arrange to post your certificates to you after the ceremony. It is your responsibility to ensure that we hold the correct details for you - you can update these through your SOLE page. You will not be able to attend a later ceremony.

I cannot attend the ceremonies, can anyone else collect my certificate for me?

No, we can only allow the graduand to attend the ceremony and collect the certificate on the day. For anyone who cannot attend, their certificate will be posted in the fortnight following the ceremonies.

How long is each award ceremony?

Each ceremony lasts for approximately for an hour and a half but larger ceremonies could last for an hour and 45 minutes.

When can I order my tickets?

All those we expect to graduate will receive an email during May with a link to an online invitation magazine. This will contain information on how to order your tickets and your academic robes and also a schedule of what happens on the day.

When do I need to order my tickets by?

You should order your tickets as soon as possible. Please do not wait until the Board of Examiners has confirmed your award before ordering your tickets.

2012 ceremonies: the deadline for ordering tickets will be confirmed by the end of March 2012.

How do I order tickets?

Visit your SOLE page and follow the online instructions. Please note that every guest attending will need a ticket - this includes children unless they are babes in arms.

How many guest tickets can I order?

This year we are able to guarantee all students two guest tickets for their ceremony, and these tickets can be booked through your SOLE page. Due to the capacity of the Cathedral it is extremely unlikely that there will be any additional guest tickets available. However, you will be asked to let us know how many guest tickets you would prefer at the time of booking.

The deadline for ordering tickets is 30th September and we will not know if there are any additional tickets available until after that date. If extra tickets do become available we will contact you by email and publish information on the website.

I would like more than two tickets. How do I order more?

I have reassessment to do, do I need to wait for my results before I can apply for tickets?

No, there is no need to wait for your results. Please return your ticket order form by the due date, and order robes and photography early. If your award is not confirmed you will be able to have a refund.

How much do the guest tickets cost?

For the student who is graduating there is no charge to attend their ceremony.

What's included in the charge for the guest tickets?

  • Coach travel between the campus and the Cathedral

How do I pay for my guest tickets?

You should follow the online instructions on your SOLE page.

Can I bring a child as a guest?

Children may attend the Awards Ceremonies, although we would ask you to use your judgement in deciding whether it is appropriate for small children to attend what can be a long ceremony. All children should be still and quiet throughout the ceremony and those children who become restless or disruptive will be asked to leave the Cathedral.

What happens if my guests change their mind or can no longer attend the ceremony?

Provided that you let us know by Friday 30th September 2011, you will not be charged.

If your circumstances change after that date, please contact the Examinations and Awards Officer directly. We cannot guarantee that a full refund will be available, but will do our best to meet your needs.

Are guests allocated seats in the Cathedral?

There is no reserved seating for guests, except for guests who have indicated on the ticket request that they have special requirements and that request has been granted.

Seating is allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Will I be allowed to sit with my guests?

No. Seats for students are allocated in one area of the Cathedral.

How many car park permits can I have?

Due to the restricted number of spaces available on campus, each graduand is allowed one car parking permit to park on the University campus.

What happens if I don't complete my course?

Should you fail to complete your course by September 2011, you will be contacted by email to confirm that you  won’t be able to graduate in November 2011. Once your award has been agreed, you will be invited to the next awards ceremony in the following academic year.

What happens if I owe the University money?

Students who have a debt to the University at the end of their course of study will not receive official confirmation of their result, and the certificate will be withheld until the debt is settled.

When will I receive my certificate?
