This course is aimed at those in the sector or aspiring to employment in the sector. The course contains 16 modules, spread across two academic years, two semesters per year (September to May); you study 8 modules per year – 4 modules per semester. Some modules are specialised in the Hospitality/Retail/Travel & Tourism sector, and some are of a more general nature. In each case, however, you can relate all the work you do to your own organisation or career ambition in Hospitality/Retail/Travel & Tourism.
The programme is delivered at Worcester College of Technology, a locally-based partner institution of the University. To view the course on Worcester College of technology's website.
Progression
There is natural progression onto the final year of the BA (Hons) degree in Business Management (or equivalent work-based learning programme) at the University of Worcester, where you will be given full credit for the work that you have done towards entry into the final year.
“One of the main strengths of the programme is the opportunity provided for students to apply theory to practice. There were many good examples of contextualising theoretical perspectives in contemporary management/organisational practice.” External Examiners Report 2009

Assessment
The aim of the Foundation degree is to make you more effective at management level in these fast-growing sectors, providing you with the practical, transferable and up-to-date skills for immediate use in your career. Additionally, it allows you to use the knowledge and the skills that you already possess to take you towards the qualification. The work you do is varied and different to a traditional Higher Education (HE) qualification.
As well as writing reports you will be organising events, investigating a real organisation, making presentations in a group and carrying out a ‘live’ consultancy project.
Academic department
“We champion an imaginative ethos that combines sound business principles with instinctive commercial drive. Our students ranked us in the top 5% of universities for ‘personal development’.”
Mark Richardson, Head of Worcester Business School
Employability
The full-time Foundation degree is a 2-year HE qualification that develops your work-specific skills in a defined vocational sector where employment opportunities are growing.
This Foundation degree is designed, therefore, to reflect these sectors and your career ambitions in them. The two-day attendance pattern means that you can continue working in the industry as you study. After you complete the qualification, you can either move on directly into the sector with an HE qualification or progress your career if you are working there already.
The Worcester Business School prospectus is available to read online or as a downloadable PDF.
