Education (Theory and Practice) BA Hons Top-up Degree

If you are currently working in an education or training environment this course enables you to boost your qualifications to degree level. It is delivered in Cornwall and Somerset.

The course has been specifically designed to top up Foundation degrees in education, or for students with professional teaching qualifications at levels 4 and 5.

This programme will improve your professional practice through the concept of the professional learner, by providing you with the theoretical underpinning and the appropriate analytical tools to critically examine your own work setting. The work is based on the premise that practical decisions must be objectively evaluated against recognised criteria.

Although this degree does not give you qualified teacher status, it does give you the ideal foundation from which to apply for PGCE or Graduate Teacher programmes for school-based learning.

This course can be studied at two of our partner institutions, through The Learning Institute (Cornwall) or Somerset SCITT. This course is not currently run at Worcester.

Peter Lewis

Student, Education (Theory and Practice) BA (Hons) Top-up Degree

“I did the Foundation Degree in Learning Support at University of Worcester when I was working for a supportive unit for disabled people. The course was really useful and relevant to my job, and the Education (in-service) BAED was a natural progression, especially as I’m in the middle of a career shift towards lecturing or training trainers. The course allows me to study my area of interest- motivation in learning- in depth with the flexibility to allow a range of study.”
