Widening Participation
Changing Futures
We provide encouragement and support to people who traditionally would not have thought of going on to higher education.
Since the University’s first widening participation strategy, our work has grown significantly both in terms of the volume of individuals who participate and the variety of activities available here at the University of Worcester.
We are proud of our developments over the past several years which have enabled many young people, adult learners, teachers, parents and careers advisers to learn more about the value of a university education.
Vision
Our strategy is built upon our institutional values of academic excellence, professionalism, integrity, community and inclusiveness.
We are working to:
- Contribute to the economic and social well-being of our local community
- Encourage a diverse and inclusive environment where access continues to be based on academic potential
- Ensure every student has the appropriate guidance and support to reach their highest levels of achievement
Activity
We maintain a comprehensive and targeted programme of outreach in order to increase opportunities and raise aspirations of young people for higher education including:
- School Visit Days Summer schools (sports science, drama and performance, health and wellbeing)
- Thinksmart (Cognitive Behavourial Therapy project)
- Gifted and talented programme
- Summer programme of activities for local playschemes
- Campus visits
